While Henry Cromwell was one of Oliver's sons, he did not succeed his father as Lord Protector! He was Lord Deputy of Ireland.

Richard Cromwell became Lord Protector after his father's death. The republic did not long survive under his government, however, and the monarchy was restored in 1660.
