Anne of Denmark was Charles I's mother!

Elizabeth Stuart was Charles I's sister! In 1613 she married Frederick V, Elector Palatine, and is known as The Winter Queen because her husband's reign in Bohemia lasted only one winter!

Charles married fifteen year-old Henrietta Maria of France by proxy in the May of 1625 and in person in the June. Their marriage proved to be a happy one as Charles was a devoted and faithful husband.

His Personal Rule lasted longer than three years!

Charles I ruled without Parliament for eleven years. His opponents called this period of Personal Rule The Eleven Year Tyranny. He was forced to call a Parliament in the April of 1640 to fund what is known as The Bishop's Wars over Church reform in Scotland.

Puritans were Protestants who wanted to "purify" the Church Of England from Roman Catholic influence. Many Parliamentarians were Puritans.

They were given this name because many (by no means not all) had very short cropped hair, unlike the King's supporters who had long hair, and this made their heads look "round". It was originally a term of derision and it became an offence to call a fellow Parliamentarian a Roundhead!

Levellers were radical reformists who wanted to abolish the monarchy and establish a fairer system of government and wealth distribution in England.

The Battle of Naseby did not take place until 1645!

The Battle of Marston Moor, the largest battle of the English Civil War, did not take place until 2 July 1644!

The battle took place on 23 October 1642 and the battlefield is said to be haunted by the ghostly soldiers to this day!
